Attorney Jason F. Carr is an Associate in the Las Vegas firm of Hofland & Tomsheck. Mr. Carr specializes in appellate and post-conviction matters but is also an experienced trial attorney.

Mr. Carr worked as a Assistant Federal Public Defender for more than twenty-years before retiring from federal service and coming to Hofland & Tomsheck. In that role, Mr. Carr gained expertise in all areas of federal practice ranging from Bail Reform Act proceedings, to trials, to sentencings, to United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit appeals, and post-conviction proceedings. Mr. Carr is one of a select group of practitioners in the Nevada that have expertise in both federal and state habeas proceedings. Since retiring from federal service, Mr. Carr has gained experience in many areas of state court practice including trial proceedings and appeals to the Nevada Supreme Court and Court of Appeals. Mr. Carr also practices in family and civil law.

Mr. Carr has enjoyed success in all practice areas but has enjoyed the greatest success with federal appeals where he has argued before the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit at least 160 times, in both direct appeal and habeas matters, yielding published reversals in approximately twenty cases. Rodriguez, 518 F.3d 1072 (9th Cir. 2008); United States v. Monghur, 588 F.3d 975 (9th Cir. 2009); United States v. Kovac, 367 F.3d 1116 (9th Cir. 2004); see also United States v. Colson, 573 F.3d 915 (9th Cir. 2009) (overruling prior precedent that disallowed an appeal of a 18 U.S.C. § 3582(c) sentencing reduction motion).

Mr. Carr also explores his interest in the academic side of law by conducting continuing legal training in innumerable areas of practice and locations.
